Greetings from Buffalo Cove Outdoor Education Center where the leaves are on the ground, the air is crisp and it’s time to think about next summer!

EARTH Camp - July 5 – 18, cost $1400.

Two weeks of great skills, crafts, adventure, community and fun.  In camper’s words, EARTH camp is: “a breath of fresh air” – “a place where I can be the real me” -   “a place where I not only am taught, but allowed to experience.”  Enrollment limit is 20.

We are excited to announce a couple new opportunities for summer 2010:

Walk About July 18-24,cost $600.

Over the last few years, we have had requests from our older campers for a more extended expedition type program.  This year we are going to give it a try and see if the interest is there.  Walk About will be for campers who have been to EARTH Camp before and are at least 14 years old.  It will take place the week following our regular EARTH Camp session.  The group will prepare for the expedition and be in the field, self sustained, for 6 days.  It will be full of beauty, adventure, group dynamics and challenge.  We will need at least 6 campers signed up for Walk About to make it “fly”.  Enrollment limit is 10.

EARTH Camp ExplorersJuly 23 – 28, cost $500.

Explorers is for those campers not quite old enough for our 2 week session but do not want to miss out on the fun!  This session is for 8-12 year olds.  We will have a wonderful introduction to the skills, knowledge, fun and adventure that Buffalo Cove has to offer! Enrollment is limited to 16.

Spots are filled on a first come, first served basis.  Please tell your friends - we still value word of mouth as the highest quality advertisement!

Discounts:

  • All applications received before December 31, 2009 will receive a 10% tuition discount.
  • Any multi-camper family will receive a 10% discount.
  • If you recruit another camper you receive a 5% discount.
  • Some financial aid may be available

Buffalo Cove introduces a new program for kids between the ages of 12 and 15 who are on the verge of disconnect. As a result of a Kennedy Foundation grant, BCOEC is now offering a 6-day wilderness adventure camp serving  boys and girls from the North Carolina High Country who are lacking in community and/or family support.  Please read more on our Program page.

General News and Publicity

Down In the Hollow

Buffalo Cove is in the movies! The documentary film, Down in the Hollow, features camp director Nathan Roark and the work being done at camp and beyond. The film is produced and directed by Peden Young along with producer Ryan Pflegler.

Down in the Hollow illuminates the shared paradoxes of Mother Nature and the Human Spirit - both resilient but delicate, relied upon yet taken for granted.”

    - Bill Holderman, Wildwood Enterprises
